Elder Ngenge Sasa: Traditional and Modern relationships and marriages

Good wednesday morning all..

Relationships and marriages nowadays are dictated by alot of external forces compared to our traditional system. I'll put the two main modern forces.

1. Money. If a person have a degree and earn good money, the women and her parents are easily attracted to him.

2. Religion. Same Religious beliefs also play a role in selecting a spouse. Partners who belief in the same religion are encouraged to marry its other.

In our traditional system, our forefathers see it differently, and do it differently.

In our tradition, the system itself have accommodated who you will marry but based on character. Marrying a girl or boy is not your choice but that of you parents', the girls' parents, the two clans and the community involved.

Traditional marriages play a big role in bringing the family and clans together. Traditional marriages contribute to the cultural economy of that family, clan and the community at large.

Traditional marriages have more blessings then alot our Morden marriages today.

If we see the trend today, more young girls marry outside of the traditional system, because they think traditional marriages is outdated. (As the saying goes, em bipo).

Experience have showed that more and more of our girls are coming back home with broken marriages, bringing with them their children of outside fathers into our community.

Some have come home with their kids only to remarry the poor same guy/ girl he/she rejected decades ago.

We need to address these issues and fix them, not just to safeguard our traditional system and marriage, but more importantly to develop.and prosperity as modern humans into the unknown future.

Uroh.

To be continued.
